PRACTICAL TRAINING

This is an example of the logical sequence of training to be undertaken during a novice fork lift truck course for three delegates, on any machine. This will be following completion of one full day theory training. The elements below show a period of four days intense practical training.

1. Introduction to the fork lift truck.

2. Explanation of the controls & instruments-mounting & dismounting.

3. Moving off-stopping, forward & reverse.

4. Basic steering exercises, forward & reverse.

5. Pre-operational Explanation & inspection of the fork lift truck.

6. Care & maintenance of fork lift truck traction batteries, or engine oil, coolants,hydraulic oils.

7. Driving around a barrel forward on the near side then on the off side keeping close to. Unladen.

8. Driving around a barrel reverse on the near side then on the off side keeping close to. Unladen.

9. Driving forward then reverse around a figure of eight course unrestricted, keeping close to. Unladen.

10. Basic engineering principles of the fork lift truck.

11. The correct use of the Hydraulic controls.

12. Lateral adjustment of the forks.

13. Approach, pick up, transport and deposit one unladen wooden pallet.

14. Approach, pick up, transport and deposit six unladen wooden pallets.

15. Stack six unladen wooden pallets on to six unladen wooden pallets.

16. De-stack six unladen wooden pallets from six unladen wooden pallets.

17. Approach, pick up, transport and deposit a laden wooden pallet.

18. Negotiate a figure eight course in a restricted area forward and reverse unladen.

19. Negotiate a figure eight course in a restricted area forward and reverse laden.

20. Negotiate a chichane forward then reverse unladen.

21. Negotiate a chichane forward then reverse laden.

22. Undercut a laden pallet.

23. Place and retrieve a laden pallet close to a vertical face.

24. Stack and de-stack a laden pallet at eye level in a block stack.

25. Stack and de-stack a laden pallet at high level in a block stack.

26. Stack and de-stack a laden pallet at low level racking.

27. Stack and de-stack a laden pallet at eye level racking.

28. Stack and de-stack a laden pallet at high level racking.

29. Approach , pick up, transport and deposit a metal corner post pallet at ground level.

30. Stack and de-stack a laden metal corner post pallet at eye level.

31. Stack and de-stack a laden metal corner post pallet at high level.

32. Load and unload a flat bed or cutain sided lorry.

33. The theory written test.

34. The pre-shift check test.

35. The practical operating test.
